SpO₂
peripheral capillary oxygen saturation
The percentage of hemoglobin carrying oxygen, estimated non-invasively by a pulse oximeter. SaO₂ is the same quantity measured directly from arterial blood.
How it gets tested
The tested distinction is estimate against measurement: SpO₂ is the oximeter, SaO₂ is the blood gas.
