Pupils Equal, Round, Reactive to Light and Accommodation
The shorthand written in a chart when a pupil examination is normal in every respect. It is one of the most common abbreviations in a neurological note.
What each letter stands for
- 1 Equal — the same size as each other.
- 2 Round — regular in shape.
- 3 Reactive to Light — constricting when light is shone in.
- 4 Accommodation — adjusting for near and far focus.
How it gets tested
The A is the letter most often missed, because accommodation is the only part that requires the patient to do something rather than the examiner.
