TACO / TRALI

transfusion-associated circulatory overload / transfusion-related acute lung injury

Two serious transfusion reactions that both cause breathlessness. TACO is fluid overload from volume; TRALI is an immune lung injury.

How it gets tested

A differentiation item: high blood pressure and fluid signs point to TACO; fever and low blood pressure with lung findings point to TRALI.
