REEDA
Redness, Edema, Ecchymosis, Discharge, Approximation
The five features described when a wound or an episiotomy site is assessed for healing.
What each letter stands for
- 1 Redness.
- 2 Edema — swelling.
- 3 Ecchymosis — bruising.
- 4 Discharge.
- 5 Approximation — whether the wound edges meet.
How it gets tested
The A is the tested letter, because approximation is the one feature that is about the wound’s structure rather than its appearance.
