OD / OS / OU

right eye / left eye / both eyes (oculus dexter, oculus sinister, oculus uterque)

Latin eye abbreviations still seen on older orders and in optometry. They are easily confused with each other and with "OD" meaning once daily, so many facilities require the words to be written out.

How it gets tested

Tested as a recognition item and as a safety item: the point is that a lookalike abbreviation is a known error source and that spelling it out is the safer notation.
