Naegele’s rule
LMP − 3 months + 7 days (+ 1 year)
The standard way to estimate a due date from the last menstrual period: subtract three months, add seven days, and adjust the year.
What each letter stands for
- 1 Start from the first day of the last menstrual period.
- 2 Subtract three months.
- 3 Add seven days.
- 4 Add a year where the subtraction crossed into the previous one.
How it gets tested
A pure calculation item, and one of the most reliable ones on maternity content. The error to watch is the year.
