One millionth of a gram, and one thousandth of a milligram. 1 mg = 1,000 mcg.
The symbol form μg is discouraged in handwriting because it has been misread as mg — a thousandfold error. Write mcg.
How it gets tested
Two-step conversions are the usual item: grams to milligrams to micrograms, three decimal places each time.
