inflammatory bowel disease / irritable bowel syndrome
Two different things with similar letters: IBD (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) involves inflammation and tissue damage; IBS is a functional disorder without it.
How it gets tested
A classic lookalike pair. Items describe bleeding or inflammation to point at IBD, or symptoms without tissue change to point at IBS.
