Nursing process

ADOPIE

Assessment, Diagnosis, Outcomes identification, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation

A six-step version of the nursing process that separates identifying outcomes from planning how to reach them. Which version a student learns depends on the program.

What each letter stands for

  1. 1 Assessment.
  2. 2 Diagnosis.
  3. 3 Outcomes identification.
  4. 4 Planning.
  5. 5 Implementation.
  6. 6 Evaluation.

How it gets tested

If both appear in one exam set, the O is the discriminator — it is the step ADPIE folds into planning.
